A ‘Clutch’ Performance!

What most people do in print, Odo Fioravanti achieved in a brilliant form exercise. The bag’s incredibly wavy, organic form isn’t a graphic, but rather a series of grooves meticulously modeled and then 3D printed in plastic. Conventional production techniques wouldn’t work given the number of undercuts on the ridges of the bag, so Odo relied on 3D printing Nylon and then giving it a hand-dyed paint job in stunning shades of metallic. These shades work brilliantly well, forming complex high-contrast light and shadow patterns that make them instantly eye-grabbing and immediately give you the urge to run your hand across it’s ridged surface.

The unlikely Hand-Sanitizer we need

I’m declaring myself a Germophobe (germaphobe, mysophobe) after hearing what scientists have to say about escalator handrails. Brace yourselves, but those handrails on escalators and walkways are by far some of the dirtiest things your hands can touch. Microbiologists have tested these handrails positive for traces of (read further only if you have the stomach for it) food, blood, mucus, urine, feces and E.coli, aside from other bacteria and viruses. It’s a rather strange compromise, to hold onto something for balance only to find it contaminated with absolute filth.

The good thing is there’s a solution for it too that doesn’t involve face masks and disposable gloves. The UV Handrail Sterilizer from LG Innotek and Clearwin is a simple yet effective solution that just snaps onto the handrails of these escalators and walkways. The retrofittable design consists of a universal clamp, a power-unit, and a UV bulb that blasts all these germs and vermin to oblivion. The bulb has a life of about 10,000 hours (which should last one and a half years if used for 20 hours a day) and runs on no external power supply. It cleverly draws power from the handrail’s movement itself, turning mechanical energy into electrical energy that powers the UV bulb so you don’t have to roam around in a Hazmat suit every time you want to use the subway.

Move Over Metro!

spacetrain_01

In the realm of rail vehicles, we don’t often think of monorails as being particularly fast, but the Spacetrain is transforming our preconceptions about this particular form of transportation. A challenger to Hyperloop, the air-cushioned Spacetrain aims to deliver passengers at a whopping 745 MPH!

Set to test in 2019, the first prototype will use a hydrogen turbine. Made entirely of carbon fiber and CNT, the interurban shuttle will use graphene carbon breaks, graphene batteries, fuel cells, and other state of the art space technologies…. hence the name!

Going electric in the bike-lane

Scooter. A light two-wheeled open motor vehicle on which the driver sits over an enclosed engine with their legs together and their feet resting on a floorboard. Scooter. Also a child’s toy consisting of a footboard mounted on two wheels and a long steering handle, propelled by resting one foot on the footboard and pushing the other against the ground.

The Commuter by OjO is a mixture of both! Lean, like the scooter meant for children, but built on the inside like a scooter meant for adults, the OjO Commuter Scooter is a zippy little e-vehicle that you can drive in the bike-lane! Designed to be revolutionary in tech and evolutionary in design, the OjO Commuter comes with an Aluminum and ABS body with a wide variety of colors and finishes (including a Street Art variant). Built with a detachable battery that can give up to 25 miles per charge, the OjO Commuter was designed to hit top speeds of 20mph, making it perfect for regular commutes, and also allowing it to be driven in the bicycle lane. Psst, you can even have a grocery basket mounted below the seat for those bicycle feels!

The e-scooter comes with a custom-made 500 Watt gear hub motor, designed specifically for long lasting durability and optimal power, and has a strategically placed opening on the front with a plug and retractable cord for easy charging. A touch-screen dashboard on the front indicates when the battery is low and can also be used to toggle between 3 different speed modes while also acting as a GPS. To top things off, it even comes with a key FOB for locating the scooter as well as toggling the security system that will immediately notify you if anything happens to your scooter.
